Oek de Jong kijkt naar kunst en zoekt het ongrijpbare, om het vervolgens voor ons allemaal onder te woorden te brengen. Negen jaar lang schreef Oek de Jong voor Museumtijdschrift over beeldende kunst, fotografie, film, architectuur en design. Hij koos steeds een kunstwerk en schreef er een mini-essay bij: persoonlijk, beeldend en in de heldere stijl die hem ook kenmerkt als romanschrijver.

Al 40 jaar is Parijs de inspiratiebron in het werk van beeldend kunstenaar Erik Pape (1942). Sinds 1980 geeft hij de stad een eigen vorm en betekenis in reeksen als: Canal St. Martin, Bassin Rond (de Tuilerieën), Paris en 8 Jours en Place de la Bataille de Stalingrad.

In een serie schilderijen vanaf 2017 - De dingen die mij opvielen... - blijft de stad zelf op de achtergrond. Pape schept ruimte voor alledaagse objecten en re-fereert daarmee aan zijn werk uit de 70er jaren, etsen en potloodt...

Het valt mij moeilijk om hier op papier in het kort uiteen te zetten wat mij heeft bewogen om te gaan schilderen en in een later stadium te gaan

houtbeeldhouwen.

Na een periode van ziekte ben ik gaan zoeken naar iets creatiefs wat  uiteindelijk naast mijn dagelijkse werk tot een ontspannende bezigheid is gaan worden.

Ik hoop dat u met voldoening zult genieten van de werken die een Vriezenveens hobbyist heeft geprobeerd zo goed mogelijk uit te beelden.

Dumas’ first solo show in South Africa after moving to The Netherlands 30 years ago provided occasion for this catalogue. Featured are more than 50 paintings, drawings and prints presented at the exhibition, as well as personal letters, documents and photographs collected by the artist. A selection of the artist’s own writings is included, ranging from her unique commentaries on art to aphoristic writings and poetry that are once insightful, witty and thought-provoking.

This cahier is a visual sketchbook for an exhibition by Marlene Dumas at the Museum of Cycladic Art in Athens, in dialogue with the museum's collection. Although the exhibition has been postponed towards 2025, this anticipatory publication already arose from Dumas' enthusiasm and affection for this combination. The enigmatic Cycladic antiquities, dating from 3000-2000 BC, speak to us in the same timeless language as Dumas' contemporary works.
