Arthur Briët (Madioen, Ned. Indië 1867-1939 Nunspeet) werd door zijn vriend, de kunstenaar Willem Witsen, ‘een curieuze jongen’ genoemd. Met een grote eigenzinnigheid volgde hij zijn eigen artistieke weg zonder zich te willen binden aan één bepaalde richting.
