Maryse Alen werd geboren met een

hartafwijking. De diagnose werd pas

31 jaar later vastgesteld. Daardoor kreeg

ze verschillende bijna-doodervaringen.

Tijdens deze ervaringen reisde ze door een

licht- en kleurenwereld waarin een gevoel

van vrijheid en intensiteit haar volledig

overspoelde. Na de operatie verdwenen

deze ervaringen maar kwam de vraag

in haar op: 'Kan ik hier en nu leven met

diezelfde vrijheid en intensiteit?' Zij vond

het antwoord opnieuw door de kleuren die

in haar werken verschenen....

Hoe teken je duizend pinguïns? Eerst één, dan twee, dan drie… En dat hou je een tijd vol. Dat is in ieder geval wat Wasco gedaan heeft. De eigenzinnige stripkunstenaar vulde een boek met precies duizend pinguïns, telkens in reeksen van één tot en met tien. Duizend zwart-witte vogels, allemaal uniek getekend: kubistisch, realistisch, grafisch, komisch, strippig. 1000 Pinguïns is een speels experiment met vorm en stijl dat een glimlach aan de toeschouwer ontlokt.

Kunstenaar José Vermeersch (1922-1997) staat bekend om zijn keramieken figuren van heterogene figuren. Hij was echter ook schilder, wever en ontwerper en creëerde een rijk oeuvre dat doordrongen is van zijn passie voor mensen, dieren en het leven.
