Houtbouw is een idee om heel vrolijk van te worden. Technisch en ecologisch gezien is grootschalige houtbouw mogelijk en als je voor elke gevelde boom een nieuwe boom plant kan de CO2-teller zelfs teruglopen. Toch is niet iedereen enthousiast over bouwen met hout. Sommige mensen willen bomen niet als bouwmateriaal zien. Zij houden van de boom als majestueus en wijs wezen, als essentieel element in het landschap of van het bos als ecologische eenheid.
