Tijdens de Tweede Wereldoorlog ontwikkelden de Nazi’s plannen om een eigen diamantindustrie op te zetten. Met het oog op de benodigde expertise bleef een groep Joden die werkzaam was in die bedrijfstak met hun gezinnen lange tijd vrijgesteld van deportatie.
