Michel Mazzoni. Craft

Focused on the questions of image-making and image display, Craft is an artist’s book made up of a substantial body of images that, directly or indirectly, engage with the notion of fabrication —manufactured objects, compositional experiments, architectural forms and more. Blending photographs, exhibition views and archival material, this book has the particularity of having been conceived in close collaboration between the publisher, the artist and the author, giving new meaning to the reading and apprehension of the images, through the implementation of echo phenomena, correspondences, extensions, even mise en abyme, between the visuals and the accompanying textual data. For Michel Mazzoni, this latest work arose from a desire to share his practice differently—by revealing how his thinking and creative process evolve across the pages, as they naturally do throughout the books and exhibitions he creates.

Axé sur les questions de la prise de vue et de la monstration des images, Craft est un livre d'artiste composé d'un ensemble conséquent d'images touchant de près ou de loin à la question de la fabrication : objets manufacturés, jeux de composition, architectures etc. Mêlant photographies, vues d'expositions et images d'archives, ce livre offre la particularité d'avoir été conçu dans une étroite collaboration entre l'éditeur, l'artiste et l'autrice, ce qui donne un sens inédit à la lecture et à l'appréhension des images, via la mise en œuvre de phénomènes d'échos, de correspondances, de prolongements, voire de mises en abyme, entre les visuels et les données textuelles qui les accompagnent. Pour Michel Mazzoni, ce dernier ouvrage est né d'une volonté de partager autrement son travail, c'est-à-dire en parvenant à montrer comment sa pensée et sa pratique évoluent au fil des pages, comme elles évoluent naturellement au fil des livres et expositions qu'il réalise.
