Designed to cover the first term in a 3-year course, the New Practical Chinese Reader (NPCR), Volume 1 Textbook aims to develop the student’s ability to communicate using Chinese through the study of language structure and function, related cultural knowledge, and training in listening, speaking, reading and writing skills. Each lesson contains Text, New Words, Notes, Conversation Practice, Reading Comprehension, Phonetics, Grammar, Characters and Cultural Notes. The NPCR series uses several fictional characters in different situations to make the Chinese learning experience more enjoyable. The new edition has corrected minor errors found in the first edition, but the frameork, texts and main language points remain the same. Audio components are now included with the textbook as an MP3 CD. Upon completion of the Volume 1 Textbook, students will be able to greet people, talk about their family, make aquaintances, and participate in other common situations in Chinese.
