Scott Bloom is a kindhearted English gentleman who has given up hope of finding true love. He works for the London Times and interviews powerful businessmen, but leaves for Beijing when Jo-Ann Wei, an activist against the one-child policy, asks for help. She has been threatened with death by Evan Mil, a British business tycoon with connections within the Chinese government.
