‘MOTOR BATTALION’ is a moving and detailed account of the 8th Rifle Brigade in WW2. The author brings to life the story of this London battalion, from its raising just before the outbreak of war in September 1939 and its service on the home front, to its fighting against an unrelenting enemy in North West Europe during the last year of the war and its disbandment in the spring of 1946.
As part of the 11th Armoured Division the 8th Rifle Brigade fought its way from Normandy to the Baltic Sea and in so doing played a prominent role in all major British operations in Normandy after D-Day, in the liberation of Amiens and Antwerp, during Operation Market-Garden (Arnhem), in the Battle of the Bulge, and in the final and costly advance across the German homeland. During its short existence 169 members of the battalion paid the ultimate price and more than 500 were wounded. ‘MOTOR BATTALION’ is their story.
‘MOTOR BATTALION’ contains some 150 photos and 100 detailed maps.
